Veena Vasista will share her journey from being unaware of her capacity to give and receive compassion, to becoming fully alive with compassion. Her three milestones - a broken back, a broken mind and a broken heart - made her journey a rocky one but with incredible outcomes.
Veena is a guide in the UK and US for individuals and organisations active in social change. She takes people on journeys of awareness and reflection in order to strengthen their connections with themselves and others. She is currently writing a book on self-awareness and social activism, is the Vice-Chair of the British Institute of Human Rights, a trainer with the Institute for Global Ethics UK Trust, and a volunteer community mediator. Luke Dowdney

In 2000, Luke Dowdney set up an organisation called Fight for Peace in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Luke's early experience as an amateur boxer taught him that the sport can be an effective tool to overcome social division and violence and also promote the potential of young people most in need. Fight for Peace uses the 'Five Pillars' model which was so effective in preventing and rehabilitating young people in Rio's disadvantaged communities, he has now opened a second centre in London's East End. ‘The Making Of ‘ - a short documentary on LUTA - featuring Roberto Custodio

Luke is also launching LUTA, a new fight wear and lifestyle clothing brand that brings together real fight performance, favela street style and a genuine social mission. After ten years of coaching young boxers in Rio, Luke was inspired to join forces with some of the best apparel designers to launch LUTA. Established as a social enterprise, LUTA will pay at least as much of the company's profits to Fight For Peace International as it pays to the company's shareholders. ALL EARS is proud to showcase ‘The Making Of ‘at the event on 17 May; a short documentary on LUTA - featuring Roberto Custodio. Roberto grew up in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, amongst guns and crime. His father was murdered by a trafficker when Roberto was 13. Rather than taking the same route as many others in the favelas, he chose to build a life for himself and joined Fight For Peace. More
